About the Item

This large Neo-Renaissance style richly carved oak sideboard was made at the end of the 19th century. It is composed of three distinct parts, all decorated with numerous plant arabesques and acanthus leaves. The lower body is adorned with entwined atlantes and caryatids, whose sheath ends in a claw foot. In the middle are two heads sculpted in low relief of a lion and a griffin. Above, two caryatids with numerous details and attributes of knowledge frame the two central glass doors that open onto interior shelves. On each end, tripartite columns with foliage and acanthus flower decorations support a richly molded broken pediment, topped by two winged chimeras, repeating the lion and griffin theme that is very present on this sideboard.
