About the Item

Magnificent 1950s Credenza by Paolo Buffa for Arrighi – Inlays by Giovanni Gariboldi, Signed An extraordinary example of mid-century Italian design, this grand credenza (high buffet cabinet) was designed by Paolo Buffa and masterfully crafted by Serafino Arrighi, one of Italy’s most skilled cabinetmakers of the 20th century. A work of exceptional artistic and technical quality, the piece features marquetry panels designed by Giovanni Gariboldi, with his signature clearly visible on the third door. This cabinet is the result of a remarkable collaboration between three key figures in Italian design history: Buffa for the overall architectural composition, Arrighi for the superior woodworking, and Gariboldi for the sophisticated decorative artistry. Each of the three doors is adorned with exquisite inlay patterns, finely executed and rich in visual detail—making the cabinet not only a functional piece but a collectible work of decorative art. The sideboard rests on a wooden top at the base, while then its turned bronze feet embellished with elegant decorative touches. Inside, the craftsmanship continues: the two side doors open to reveal ample shelves, while the center door conceals a series of finely crafted drawers, cleverly accessed by a hidden mechanism. Every aspect of the cabinet reveals meticulous woodworking and careful design. This cabinet is not just furniture—it is a grand expression of Italian art and artisanal excellence. It stands as a harmonious blend of modernist aesthetics, refined functionality, and decorative richness, suitable for luxurious interiors, private collections, or refined design projects. It is possible to request a certificate of authenticity from Arrighi. A rare and important piece of furniture, ideal for those seeking not only to furnish but to elevate their interiors with a piece of Italian design history. Giovanni Gariboldi – From Gio Ponti’s Apprentice to Ginori’s Artistic Director Gariboldi began his career in 1926 at just 18 years old, apprenticing under the legendary Gio Ponti. He would go on to become Artistic Director of Ginori 1735, leaving an indelible mark on Italian decorative arts and modernism. His contribution to this credenza adds profound historical and artistic value, making it a museum-worthy piece for connoisseurs of Italian design.
