About the Item

19th Century Rustic Country French Raised Cabinet represents a centuries-old design that harks back to an era when specialized storage cabinets were in high demand by the affluent. This example, rendered from solid old-growth oak, features pegged mortise & tenon joinery, chamfered plank panels across the back, and a cabinet that is raised up for easy access upon a pediment of colonnades with turned columns. Such pieces would appear in libraries, studies, and hallways, and provide safe storage for items particular to the usage for that part of the manoir. Forged steel hinges, lockworks and key guards add a nice touch, as do the notched brackets on the interior that allow one to adjust the shelf to whatever height needed. Subtle yet artistic cabinetry is apparent in the door panels, side panels, and touches such as the rosettes on the arches below. Opening measures 25 high x 47 wide and shelf is removable in case you wish to put a flat panel TV inside. Painstakingly stripped using our proprietary process that retains the patina and sheer natural beauty of the old wood, all performed by our expert in-house staff. Circa 1870s Measures 61.5H x 56W x 24D Available for pickup in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Antique French Deux Corp 'Cupboard' in Original Finish from Chateau Unrestored
Located in Chicago, IL
This extremely rare, Antique French Cupboard, is from the Château de Loyat in Brittany, which I believe dates back to the 1500, was in a condition, that Antique dealers can only dream of. The French Cupboard or Cabinet, is exactly what you would expect, a 300-year-old antique French Cabinet to look like, if no one ever touched the finish, let alone restore the Antique Cupboard. Our opinion is, that this Antique French Cupboard or Cabinet, could have been made in the late 1600s or early 1700s and if I did not know that this Cupboard was made from French White Oak, one would have thought it was constructed of iron, based on its weight. Our centuries old French Cupboard, was constructed without the use of any nails or glue, for the entire Antique Cabinet was assembled using wooden pegs. Our Old Plank restoration department, has just completed a 240-hour conservation procedure, wherein lieu of just replacing the old worn wood oak boards, we chose to harden them and only used small fillets of antique French Oak for repair. Yes, this became a labor of love, but for us, to find an antique French Cabinet, in this virgin untouched state, is quite rare nowadays, so, the choice was made to conserve, rather than restore, which required triple the labor. Our Antique French Deux Corps...
