Antique Dutch Rococo Cabinet with Writing Desk, ca. 1750

About the Item

This rare and impressive Dutch Rococo cabinet, made around 1750, is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and elegance. The cabinet is made of oak and finished with a luxurious mahogany veneer, which adds a warm, deep shine to the piece. The graceful shapes and curved lines, typical of the Rococo style, are further emphasized by gilded bronze fittings. The furniture consists of a single curved base with five drawers, a pull-out writing surface covered in green leather, and two useful pull-out shelves. The top has two large doors that hide an uncluttered interior with five smaller drawers and three shelves, ideal for organizing documents, books, or decorative objects but also makes the cabinet suitable as a bookcase or wardrobe. The cabinet has been carefully crafted with exceptional attention to detail, from the finely carved ornaments to the original gilded bronze handles and locks. In excellent condition considering its age, with minimal signs of use that add to its antique charm. Height: 242 cm Width: 179 cm Depth: 65 cm

Fine Dutch Baroque Double Domed Walnut Cabinet
Located in Antwerp, BE
A very fine and rare burr walnut and walnut double domed cupboard; Holland, circa 1700. Resting on bracket feet, the base has two large drawers a pair of half - width drawers, protruding on the bottom and inlaid with cross banded geometric ornament. The doors have elegant protruding curly serpentine - shaped walnut ornament and are topped with finely carved low - relief walnut lambrequins in the Régence style under the double domed cornice. Each dome has an elegant molding transforming in its centre into a richly carved bracket. Together with the flat - topped corners and centre, these were meant to support a Chinese porcelain or Delft glazed earthenware set of 5 blue - and -white vases, called a ' kaststel ' in Dutch. The interior is typically executed in oak, with three interior drawers and shelves behind the cupboard doors. As was often the case, the bronze handles and keyholes were replaced later in the 18th century by more contemporary Louis XVI models. The interior drawers however, where it was not felt important as they were invisible when the doors were closed, still keep their original handles. The double dome is a rare feature in Dutch walnut cabinets...

The antique closet is totally made of the finest walnut wood. The base is supported by 4 square feet, placed diagonally, which create a very fine angle. Their workmanship is reminiscent of that of capitals, given the curly detail present on each of them. Inside the display case we find a storage space also complete with two drawers below. A brass bar in patina is present. The centerpiece of the closet is its top: it is finely crafted through shapely and sinuous decorations. There are 4 ornamental capitals, one for each corner of the cabinet, also placed diagonally.
