Beautiful 19th century Antique French Oak Brenton Brittany "Jam" cabinet or cupboard~~liquor cabinet or bar~~c. 1880s Charming carved oak "jam" cabinet~~sometimes called "confitures", these cabinets were originally used for the storage of jams and jellies~~highly requested classic French Breton design~~Breton (sometimes known as Brittany) furniture originated in late 19th century France in a region to the west of Normandy, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Because of the proximity to the ocean, many people of the era were fishermen. The nautical and maritime themes are often characterized in Breton furniture with the portrayal of ship wheels and decorative spindle accents. Perfect for an entry hall or as a bar or liquor cabinet in today's home~~could be a pedestal to display a large bronze~~store blankets or linens or use in a bath for towels and toiletries~~perfect for storage of files or books in an office or study~~the possibilities are endless!
