Antique French Walnut Panetière

About the Item

France, ca. early 19th century. A lovely antique panetière or bread storage cabinet from Provence. Features hand carved walnut construction in the Louis XV style with finely turned spindles and quirky elongated finials. Mounted with forged iron hardware that includes the original lock and key. Bombé front and scrolled feet enhance the overall playful form. Once a fixture of any good French country kitchen, the panetière became a symbol of hospitality and bounty - yet also served a practical role in keeping freshly baked loaves safe from prying hands or critters. An intriguing decorative object, it would also be a fun way to store and display one’s favorite spirts. Professionally refurbished and in excellent antique condition with rich patina.
