About the Item

Alexander Roux Serpentine Inlaid Side Cabinet’ uses mainly light wood materials such as kingwood or satinwood, and floral motifs to bring a feeling of closeness, friendliness towards nature. The background texture has a classic trellis lattice pattern that dominates most of the cabinet’s marquetry inlay surface. In addition, the edges of the cabinet are bordered with gilded lines with intricate designs. On the both sides of the cabinet are images of women, which fuse together the feminine motifs at the front with gilded bronze mounts. The four legs of the cabinet are gilded with a uniform palmette pattern with an acanthus center piece. The cabinet consists of three shelves inside, drawer above and is topped off with a marble slab. This Neo-grec cabinet is an innovative combination of motifs from the antique, late 19th century styles and was designed by Alexander Roux, a French-born interior designer.
