About the Item

Unique Walnut 18th Century Style Dutch Masonic Marble Topped Illustration or Print-Cabinet Signed This unique walnut illustration/print-cabinet, measuring L. 128 cm x H. 98 cm x D. 85 cm. (!), has probably been made to order (as a present by the Grand Master National H.R.H. Prince William Alexander Charles Hendrik Frederic (1851-1884) for the masonic Grand Lodge of The Netherlands to keep part of their rare comprehensive collection. The technique of pulling the 5 drawers out of the cabinet on drawer conductors attached to the inside of the doors is based on 18th century print-cabinets. In the richly ornamented carvings on the door panels you will among others detect the masonic symbols: a pair of compasses, a square and a plummet. This Illustration or Print Cabinet is also well suited for storing posters. Messrs. H.F. Jansen started its life in 1845. After the purchase of a small furniture factory in 1877 they started designing and producing complete interiors, woodwork of rooms and furniture in historic styles. In 1900 a furniture store at the Rokin 10 in Amsterdam was opened designed by architect Ed. Cuypers, from the famous Cuypers architect family (his uncle Pierre designed the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam recently visited by President Obama ). Messrs. H.F. Jansen have worked for and delivered to many prestigious institutions and companies; they were also official court suppliers of the Royal Court of The Netherlands for which they were later granted the prestigious title: Royal. The aforementioned sizes are indicative, please contact our office for the exact dimensions. " Monumental Historical has gratefully granted the honourable request by the management of the Museum in Gorinchem - a small pretty little antique city in The Netherlands - to loan some of the rare masonic items from her collection for an exposition on 200 years Freemasonry in Gorinchem. "FREEMASONS, A secret unviled" Herewith the items indeed deserve the epitheton: "museum pieces" (see image 2). The official opening took place in the " Grote Kerk" in Gorinchem October 24th. 2015 and the exposition runs through to mid March 2016. Further please bear in mind we have made an arrangement with the museum that a possible sale in the meantime of the item in the present case wouldn't cause a problem.
