Expertly Restored Roger Sprunger Dunbar Model #7111 Maple Burl Cabinet Sideboard

About the Item

Made in the early 1970s by prestigious American furniture maker Dunbar, this piece was designed by Roger Sprunger, who spent the better part of three decades at Dunbar. Many of Dunbar's most successful pieces were designed by Sprunger. He is now recognized for his simple and blocky style and timeless pieces. This cabinet is likely the best example currently available, partly because of its restored condition, but mostly because of its absolutely incredible grain. This burl is the cream of the crop, featuring exceptional contrast and astounding clarity into the wood. It also features the best chatoyancy we've ever seen. The effect is difficult to capture, but moving around the cabinet, the color seems to shimmer. As you get closer, you can identify subtleties in the grain, making it a piece that looks great up close and from a distance. The four doors open to reveal two shelves on the left, and two drawers on the right. The top right drawer also retains its original felt linning and the metal Dunbar label on its left side. Set on an patinated dark brass base that is almost, but not quite black, offering another point of contrast to the burl, and matching door handles. While the back is not finished in the same burl, it features its original dark stained panel. Our cabinet has been expertly and professionally restored. Every trace of the old finish was stripped by hand-sanding. Oiled, followed by a protective clear lacquer coat with a satin sheen. Finally, burnished with steel wool and wax. Interiors have been cleaned and are virtually new, and the base show few signs of wear. You will be pleased with the restoration, condition and expressiveness of this fine cabinet.
