About the Item

This remarkable 17th-century Italian cabinet is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, combining ebony and ebonized wood with tortoiseshell plaques, finely worked brass mounts, and delicate brass inlays. Designed in the architectural style popular during the Baroque period, the cabinet features a grand central section resembling a classical façade, flanked by elegant Tuscan-style columns. Upon opening the central doors, the cabinet reveals a richly decorated interior, designed with a striking theatrical effect. The mirrored backdrop enhances depth and luminosity, reflecting a meticulously cast bronze cherub placed at the center. Surrounding the central niche are numerous finely crafted drawers, offering both aesthetic beauty and functional storage. Each drawer retains its original 17th-century locks, showcasing the high level of detail and security mechanisms of the time. The cabinet comes with two separate period keys—one for the central doors and another for the side drawers. The combination of noble materials, intricate craftsmanship, and theatrical illusion makes this an outstanding collector’s piece. Dimensions (without table): 78.5 x 36 x 135 cm Condition: Excellent overall condition, with minimal signs of wear consistent with its age. The structure is solid, the original locks are functional, and the tortoiseshell and brass inlays remain well-preserved.
