About the Item

This is an old Japanese tansu. It was used in the Tohoku region around the Meiji period and is made primarily of cedar. The four large drawers are an unusual size and have chestnut wood fronts. The wooden doors have a simple design with horizontal bars. Even when the back of the door is facing outwards, it still has a unique and beautiful design. Although it was used as a cupboard, it also makes an ideal sideboard for displaying vases and ceramics. The color tone has been adjusted with traditional Japanese paint, leaving the patina that develops with use intact. The internal shelves are made from a single piece of wood and are removable. This tansu has been carefully used by hand for many years, and its appearance will change over time. We believe it is a harmonious and extremely valuable piece. Note: The internal shelves have some warping due to aging, but this does not affect their usability. Weight: 49.6kg
