About the Item
This is an old, large Tansu made in Japan. It is an unusual style with a vertical structure, and is thought to have been made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s). Unlike most horizontal tansu, the imposing vertical form brings a unique sense of tension and serenity to the space.
Cedar wood, with its moist texture and rich grain, is used as the material. The wood surface has been nurtured over a long period of time, leaving scratches and scuffs as evidence of use, and these become part of the scenery, giving the furniture a depth and presence that is unique to this piece of furniture.
The design is extremely simple and lean, and the word “simplicity” is truly appropriate. It blends in naturally with modern living spaces and radiates a sense of presence.
The spirit of “wabi sabi” (the Japanese aesthetic and philosophy of life) seems to be condensed in this furniture.
The sliding doors open and close smoothly, indicating that the furniture has been carefully maintained and used with care.
The room has already been cleaned and is ready for use.
When shipping, the product will be packed securely in a wooden box from Japan for safe delivery.
Weight: approx. 60 kg

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
