Meander I2 Side Table / Low Cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs
Located in Geneve, CH
Meander I2 side table / low cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs. Dimensions: D 51 x H 73cm. Materials: Stainless steel, aluminum, elastic rope (natural rubber, polyester). Other dimensions are available. Meander is the latest fruit of an ongoing research that started from the system ‘Coil’ in which round elastic rope is connected to a stable material, resulting in screens from parallel stretched strings. Using flat elastic band with different widths and playing with interspacing, meander allows to create semi-transparent screens with a lot of variations. Out of its system Meander can be implemented exterior, as architectural screens packing buildings or dividing space, or interior, as room dividing screens. But above all it allows to create sensual objects that play with shape, transparency, motion and optical confusion. The possibilities are endless! Bram Kerkhofs (° 1977) is a Belgian furniture designer looking for new forms and methods to challenge the functionality and flexibility of a furniture piece. Educated as a goldsmith he is fascinated by connections, hinges, knots and joints, and especially by the functional opportunities they generate. His work is filled with mathematical principles resulting in intelligible algorithms to make them understandable. He draws particular attention to the relationship between construction and material, bringing simplicity into complexity, with a lasting alertness to the final function. This time-intensive design and development process results in innovative construction systems automatically expressing his signature. Many of his designs must be seen in a bigger picture, as parts to a whole, in which he explores the endless possibilities for links, combinations and variations. Bram wants to clarify complex constructions and gives the consumer and the spectator insight into his thinking process. That is why his work partly revolves around people, as the manipulators...

Coil #5 Cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs
Located in Geneve, CH
Coil #5 cabinet by Bram Kerkhofs Dimensions: D80 x W40 x H225.6cm Materials: stainless steel, aluminium, elastic rope (natural rubber, polyethylene). Other dimensions are available. Coil is a modular cabinet system in which the ‘shell’ is formed completely around a base as a semi-transparent curtain from a vertical and parallel woven elastic rope. It forms the middle between a classic open rack and a display cabinet and can be used on all sides. Coil redefines the cabinet as an object in its use. To put something in or to get it out, the elastics have to be pushed aside. Coil is a good example to clarify my dealings with materials and their properties. To be able to attach the elastic rope, the rope must be stretched so that the rope becomes thinner. The top and bottom shelf of the cabinet are provided with a specific cut-out curve at the edge so that the stretched elastic can be inserted, after which it relaxes nicely in the recessed opening. Due to its modular construction, the coil can vary in height by 40 cm each. The inner shelves are slightly smaller. This keeps them away from the screen. Coil has a fixed rounded rectangular format of 40 x 80 cm (W x H) and can be combined with quarter circle modules with a radius of 40 and 80 cm. This makes it possible to build freestanding walls as a composition of curved and straight forms, as functional room dividers. 17th Century Antwerp Cabinet with Painted Panels Attributed to H. Van Balen
Located in PARIS, FR
This precious cabinet is one of the rare emblematic works of the city of Antwerp, produced in 17th century thanks to the collaboration between a painter and a cabinetmaker, and intended to adorn Kunstkammer (private museums) or art cabinets. Our cabinet is decorated with 13 oil painted panels featuring mythological and allegorical subjects and perfectly reflects the Antwerp pictorial trend of the early 17th century. Definitely in the spirit of the times, where one of the roles of the kunstkammer (the room for which it is intended) is to be able to contemplate the world in all its aspects. It opens with two doors revealing 10 drawers, 9 of which have painted panels on the front, a central door and an upper compartment, the interior of which is also decorated with a painted panel. The left door depicts a subject from Roman mythology: Pomona and Vertumnus in the garden. The fruits and vegetables placed at the feet of Pomona evoke the allegory of summer and the abundance of nature. While on the right door, under the airs of Venus and Love...

Oak Corner Cabinet, circa 1900
Located in Evergreen, CO
Simple yet stately, this corner cabinet was crafted from solid oak and finished with a medium stain at the beginning of the 20th century. The cabinet's corner design maximizes storage without sacrificing floor space. Although the cabinet appears to be double bodied, it is one piece. It features a molded edge cornice, canted corners that protrude to create a reverse breakfront design, and a plinth base. The cabinet's upper raised panel doors...
