About the Item

Small Oak Cabinet by René Gabriel (1890-1950) Reconstruction period Rare model in this format. Decorative grooves. Original lock and key. Removable shelves. Signs of age here and there. Very beautiful patina. The so-called “disaster victims ” cabinet is an iconic piece of furniture from the reconstruction program launched after World War II. Designed by French designer René Gabriel at the request of the Ministry of Reconstruction, it was part of the “emergency furniture” intended to refurnish destroyed homes at a symbolic price in ration tickets. Made of solid oak, it features two doors opening onto a wardrobe on one side and shelves on the other, with the original lock and keys. Its sturdy, collapsible design made it easy to transport and assemble, a major advantage in the post-war context. Dimensions: L: 110 cm H: 140 cm D: 42 cm
