Three Doors Louis XV Style Glass Cabinet, Mahogany, 19th Century

About the Item

The painted scenes that decorate the side doors are children and a harp in one and a woman with a Cupid in the other. Technically, they remember the plaques made with the so-called "Vernis Martin" that used to be applied to furniture at the time. They show inconsequential themes, appropriate for interior decoration and that perfectly fulfilled their role of providing delicacy and color to the furniture, in addition to being able to be framed within Galante Painting, characteristic of the Rococo. All the decorative elements of the furniture have been made in Rococo style, also known as Louis XV (17101774) for being during his government when these forms are adopted in France. In the nineteenth century, as happened with others, many pieces were made taking inspiration as created in the eighteenth century and contributing a series of peculiarities of the time such as, in this case, the abundance of decorative moldings with rocks and the striking Movement of the lines marking the lower and upper areas of the cabinet."
