About the Item

Very fine Lacquer Chiniosiere Side Cabinet by Raulin, Paris, circa 1880 Gilt-bronze mounted tulipwood cabinet with a shaped rectangular marble top above a cupboard door inset with a lacquer landscape panel with gilt decoration on a black ground, overall within a similar trim , signed by V. Raulin 209.226 Bd St. Germain. Measures: Height 46 in., Width 54 1/2 in., Depth 20 in. Catalogue Note The firm was first established by Victor's father with premises at 93, Rue de Turenne where he was associated with the furniture and works of art restorer Meyer. Both Raulin père and Meyer exhibited at the 1867 Exposition Universelle, presenting high quality lacquer furniture. Victor took over his father's business in 1878 and moved to new premises in 1882 at 110, rue de Vielle du Temple and later at 209, Boulevard St- Germain, where he remained until circa 1925. He specialized in marquetry, and like his father, in lacquer furniture in the 18th century taste. He exhibited at the 1878 and 1889 Paris Expositions Universelles where he was awarded both exhibitions silver medals. French 19th C. Louis XV Style Ormolu-Mounted Vernis Martin Cabinet by F. Linke
By François Linke
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A Very Fine French 19th century Louis XV Style Ormolu-Mounted Kingwood and Satinwood Parquetry Vernis Martin Decorated Meuble D'Appui Side-Cabinet by François Linke (1855-1946) - Index Number 204 - Paris. The serpentine Griotte de Campan Rouge marble top above a single bombé door painted with a scène of a couple running through the forest flanked by cupids and angels over a waterfall, the interior fitted with one wooden shelf, the front angles each with a scrolling foliate clasp, the bombé sides decorated with square parquetry fields, on cabriole legs and acanthus-cast sabots. The lockplate engraved 'Ct. LINKE - PARIS'. The ormolu cast stamped 'FL' on the back. Circa: Paris, 1890-1900. François Linke (1855-1946) was one of the most celebrated ébénistes of his time. Born in Pankraz, Bohemia, Linke moved to Paris in 1875 and six years later established independent ateliers at 170, rue de Faubourg St. Antoine. As was the practice among contemporaries and noteworthy predecessors, such as Alfred Beurdeley and Henry Dasson, Linke initially produced furniture derived from styles popular during the 18th century ancien régime. By 1900, his worldwide reputation as an individualistic master of high quality furniture was already established. However, with a huge display, placing his extravagant pieces in room settings and winning the Médaille d'Or for his Grand Bureau...
