About the Item

Victorian walnut stationery cabinet A late 19th century Victorian carved walnut stationery box. The box has a brass plate stating Philip. Son & Nephew. Liverpool" and the lock is stamped "Bramah London". The top hinges vertical and the front falls forward and then hinges open again to the leather covered writing surface. Above the inkwells are three drawers with figured walnut veneered fronts and brass handles, the drawers have their original leather lining. The main body of the box is compartmentalised to hold stationery, envelopes, pamphlets and in the centre are two walnut edged ceramic note boards held in brass brackets. To the underside of the lid is a leather pen and ruler holder with one original ivory ruler. The exterior of the box is carved and has two heavy quality brass carrying handles. The box is in excellent original condition but does not have a key. (Circa 1890) Measures: height 31cm (12.2 inches) Width 44cm (17.3 inches) Depth 26cm (10.2 inches).
