About the Item

A small-sized Italian three-drawer side chest, with elegantly shaped body and marquetry details, from the 18th century. This antique commode from Italy features beautiful banding and inlay details set within a shapely body with subtly bowed front and wider/concave sides. The top has a simple yet elegant star inlay within a circular medallion at its center, and attractive banding about the perimeter. This same exquisite star and banding motif continues about each of the drawer fronts and each case side. Each drawer is fitted with a simple escutcheon keyhole at center (please note that bottom drawer is missing the metal escutcheon). This chest is has a delightfully swag carved skirt on three sides and is raised nicely on four legs. This 18th century Italian marquetry side chest, with a width of just over 2 feet, enables it to be a highly diverse piece which would work well in any number of rooms throughout a home or office.
