18th Century Italian Neoclassical Walnut Banded Commode

About the Item

Stunning neoclassical / Louis XVI commode from central Italy hand-crafted in the mid 1700s using walnut and pegged construction. I, personally, fell in love when I saw it the first time because it is just a little different from every other commode out there. The rounded trim on the corners and the molding around the base on top of the feet give it a bit more depth than what one would expect from a commode of this time period. The commode shows three inset drawers, all showing beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are decorated with beautiful walnut burl veneer framed with a line of ebonized walnut and cross-banded walnut veneer. The top is made of three boards with rounded ogee edge. This is an absolutely gorgeous commode with a beautiful, warm walnut color and stunning patina. It is rather wide and it is definitely a commode that will definitely be a presence in any room, nevertheless it does not look imposing, it's just that you cannot help keep looking at it; it is just that pretty! The drawers still work well and are very spacious, which make this not just a beautiful and decorative piece, but also a practical one.
