About the Item
A magnificent Italian walnut commode, circa 1770, with richly carved detail and superb patina. This three-drawer chest features beautifully figured walnut panels framed with bold molding and stylized laurel leaf carving. The corners are flanked by sculptural carved cherubs with flowing drapery, lending a sense of movement and baroque grandeur.
The commode rests on carved scroll feet, while the upper edge is finished with a dentil frieze and molded top, showcasing the craftsmanship and elegance of late 18th century Italian furniture. Its warm, honey-toned walnut surface has developed a deep and lustrous patina over 200 years of use.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. Minor wear consistent with age, enhancing its authenticity and character. Drawers function smoothly with original carved pulls. Northern Italian.
