18th Century Northern Italian Louis XVI Walnut Inlaid Commode

About the Item

Louis XVI commode hand-made in Italy in the mid 1700s using walnut and pegged construction. The commode features three overlay drawers of roughly the same size, all showing beautiful hand-made dovetail joints, ogee edges and decorated with patterned inlay satinwood and walnut veneer. The top and the sides are also decorated with the same motif, making this a very well balanced piece of furniture. The commode still tits on its original tapered feet, however the hardware was most likely replaced at some point in the past. This is a beautiful piece from the Northwestern Italian region of Piemonte, and is a very well-built and solid piece that can be used on a daily basis. The drawers are rather large, which provide plenty of storage space for clothing, linens or, if you have a dog like mine, their ridiculously large toy collection. This is a piece of furniture built to be both practical and pretty. Its inlay patterned veneer add significant depth as well as softness to its overall very straight lines. This is a commode that could look great in a bedroom but also an entryway or a living room.
