19th Century Bleached Mahogany Dutch Commode/Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Small chest of drawers hand-built in the Netherlands in the early 1800s using mahogany. This little guys packs a lot of character and details in one small package! The chest features four drawers with serpentine drawer fronts and showing square nails at the joints. The chest is topped by a single-board top with rounded edges that follows the serpentine patterns of the drawers in the front and continues it on both sides. The sides of the chest are made of simple straight panels. At the bottom, the chest is decorated by a scalloped apron highlighted by molding on both the front and the sides. The corners of the chest are decorated by scalloped slanted columns that end on the original c-scroll feet. Overall this is a very nice little chest with beautiful proportions and gorgeous wood grain. The bleaching process has brought out the natural decorations of the mahogany and provides the chest with white, light gray and cream patterns. Moreover, the chest is not only pretty to look at, it is also built very well and ready to be used on a daily basis, and can provide quite a bit of storage space in a very small footprint.
