About the Item

Bombay chest hand-crafted in the Netherlands in the early 1800s using oak. The chest is rather large in size and features three inset drawers that work well and can be used on a daily basis. The handles are original and very ornate. The front corners are cantered and follow the bombay shape of the front, whereas the sides are flat. The chest sits on bun feet and is finished by a simple line of angled molding on the bottom. The top is made of three boards with ogee serpentine edges on three sides. On one side part of the edge is slightly damaged towards the back (pictured). Overall this is a beautiful piece that is not too big nor too small, It could stand on its own but also placed next to a bed, depending on the size of the room. Its lines give it a delicate look, despite being built very well and being quite heavy. The bleached oak give it both a rustic as well as elegant, modern look.
