About the Item

Chest of drawers hand-made in Belgium in the early 1900s using oak and pegged construction. The chest features three overlay drawers, all showing large, hand-made dovetail joints and beautifully decorated with floral carvings on the fronts. The front corners are fluted and the chest still sits on its original tapered feet, also fluted. Right below the top the chest has a thin hiding compartment that can only be opened by opening the first drawer and reaching under the sliding element. On the front, this compartment looks just like a hand-carved decoration. The top features three boards with ogee edges nailed to the case. The sides are made of inset chamfered boards framed by a thin hand-carved molding and then flat molding. Overall this is a beautifully built and decorated large chest of drawers that will provide storage, decoration and a handy hiding spot. Its light color makes it perfect for someone who is looking for a large piece that will not take over a room. The chest will fit well with many different styles of interior decor and is one of those pieces that will stay in your family for many years to come.
