18th Century Style French Louis XV Bombé Commode in Painted Finish
A beautifully contoured French Louis XV-style bombé commode, likely late 19th to early 20th century, with a warm, time-softened painted finish.
The chest features the quintessential bombé (bulging) silhouette, with voluptuous serpentine curves along the sides and front, gracefully terminating in cabriole legs. It has two small drawers over two full-width drawers, all retaining their original shaped bronze rococo handles and escutcheons. The drawer fronts and side panels are delicately framed with carved molding, highlighting the chest’s sinuous profile.
The painted finish is a soft, warm beige with subtle golden undertones, showing gentle wear and patina consistent with age, which lends the piece an authentic, romantic charm. The top retains the same shaped edge, mirroring the curves below. The interior construction, with its solid wood planks and dovetail joinery, speaks to its craftsmanship and durability.
