If a piece feels like Tommi Parzinger, but is marked Johnson Furniture, there can be only one answer as to its Designer: Renzo Rutili. Mr. Rutili was a seminal furniture designer of the 20th century who is undeniable influence is sometimes overlooked in retrospect. Many of his designs are more sophisticated, cutting edge and downright fabulous than any produced during his era - his work takes a backseat to no one. These Johnson Furniture Company chests, circa 1950, are a mesmerizing example of this Gentleman's awesome talent. Exceptionally crafted mahogany case construction finished in black lacquer. The black walnut parquetry drawer fronts add dramatic contrast. Stunning solid brass hardware accent the drawers. Unforgettable jewelry intended to anchor a cherished space. Excellent Restored Condition. The chests have undergone meticulous complete professional restoration. All hardware has been professionally cleaned and polished. About Gino Maggioni
Gaetano Borsani, owned his own furniture shop, the Atelier di Varedo, where the 16-year-old Osvaldo received his first training. At that time, the designer of the atelier was the architect Gino Maggioni, who brought with him influences of the early 20th century Jugendstil movement from Vienna and who instilled in the young Borsani an appreciation for the arts and crafts and furniture making.
Luigi Maggioni, known as Gino (San Giorgio su Legnano, 5 May 1898 – Diano Marina, 14 December 1955), was an Italian architect, known for having made an important contribution to the development of the interior architecture and furnishing sector.
