About the Item

Dutch Burl Mahogany Commode / Sideboard Late 18th Century, Circa 1780 An exceptional Dutch mahogany commode crafted in burl mahogany, dating to the late 18th century (circa 1780). The piece features a serpentine front with a drawer and cabinet below, reflecting the elegance and refinement of Dutch furniture design of the period. Ingeniously, the commode transforms into a bespoke sideboard: lifting the top extends the full length, with additional leaves on either side and a dedicated galleon shelf unit designed for the display of glassware. This multifunctional design demonstrates both technical ingenuity and practical luxury, making it a rare example of adaptable furniture from the Dutch Neoclassical era.
