About the Item

A provincial chest of drawers from the early 19th century. Northern France/Belgium. Solid oak construction. Ready for everyday use with beautiful bleached surface. Richly profiled oak body with side panels, three drawers and relief-like carving on the front. The rounded edges and multi-curved base frame end in slanted cabriole legs (volute-shaped), while the corresponding top panel is cropped at the corners. Ornamental, floral and, in particular, rocaille-shaped flat carvings adorn the drawer fronts and base frame. Brass fittings in the Rococo style complete the chest of drawers. Dimensions Height: 110 cm / 43.3 inch. Width: 149 cm / 58.66 inch. Depth: 67 cm / 26.37 inch. Internal dimensions of drawers: 17 cm (6.69 in.) high, 122 cm (48.03 in.) wide, 56 cm (22.04 in.) deep Good condition with slight signs of age-related wear. The dark surface coating has been removed from the wood and it has been bleached, revealing the texture of the oak wood in a light colour without any sealant.
