English William and Mary Period Oak Paneled Chest of Four Drawers Circa 1690
About the Item
English William and Mary period oak paneled chest of four drawers. These drawers still run on side rails (which have been restored) and work quite smoothly and well. This 17th century chest shows how early chests were enhanced through the use of complex moldings applied to the front of the drawers. This way of adornment was fairly short lived and by early in the 18th century it was no longer common as less work intensive ways of adorning chests had been discovered. Replaced bun feet and side runners. Circa 1690 37 1/2" wide x 21" deep x 36" high
