About the Item

A handsome French 19th century Louis XVI st. tulipwood, kingwood, ormolu, and brass commode. The three drawer chest is raised by Fine tapered legs below the lightly scalloped and elegantly shaped apron. Above each leg are three delicately inlaid brass fillets leading upwards to Fine foliate ormolu corner mounts and flanking the three drawers. Each drawer displays richly chased berried laurel pulls tied with a ribbon and a central ormolu keyhole escutcheon set on a striking and wonderfully executed quarter veneered tulipwood background with superb interlocking geometric patterns. The sides display beautiful butterfly veneered herringbone patterns also displaying Fine interlocking wrap around kingwood fillets. The top is decorated with three remarkable quarter veneered panels each also framed in most decorative interlocking kingwood fillets.
