About the Item

Unique chest of drawers in precious wood with bone inlay like small bubbles on the top of each leg and the trimmed skirt, small circles that add design and exquisiteness to the piece. With a rectangular profile, it is designed as a small chest of drawers with a two-register front with bronze ring handles. The entire front and side profile are finished off by wavy skirts with embedded bone bubbles. The legs, the main protagonists of the design of this piece, are presented tall, dominating the space, faceted, with a thick central body that becomes stylized and outlined in descent, with a slight final movement that ends in a bone border. The top is made of original griotte marble with a dove-breast edge and chamfered corners. Jacques Émile Ruhlmann (28 August 1879 in Paris-1933) was a renowned French furniture designer and interior decorator during the Art Deco movement. Since 1911 his exquisite, elegant and refined furniture along with various decorative objects were exhibited at the Paris Salons d'Automne. Ruhlmann's pieces were created for the most refined and selective luxury, made with the most valuable materials, including exotic woods such as Macassar ebony, Amboina, rosewood or tortoiseshell and ebony arranged in inlay. In 1919 together with Pierre Laurent he founded the Établissement Ruhlmann et Laurent. In 1925 Ruhlmann's interior and furniture designs were highly successful and recognized at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, with the Hôtel du Collectionneur pavilion in Paris. All of the storage furniture designed for the library was purchased by the actress Jeanne Renouard. These modular storage pieces are the precursors of the modern furniture system. Ruhlmann also designed important, highly selected interiors for numerous Parisian houses and the decoration of several rooms in the Élysée Palace.
