Georgian 18th Century Walnut Tallboy Chest On Chest
About the Item
A Wonderful Early 18th Century, George I Period, Walnut Chest On Chest, Or Tallboy, Of Attractive Untouched Colour And Surface Throughout, Having Three Short And Three Long Drawers To Top, Over Two Short And Two Long Drawers To Base, Retaining Original Brass Ring Drop Handles And Featherbanded Decoration, Raised On Elegant Original Shaped Bracket Feet.
A lovely example of its type this particular walnut tallboy remains in excellent condition throughout with very little restoration to speak of aside from the usual cleaning, waxing and general tidying up before being placed on sale.
It retains its original brass handles and lock escutcheons which is extremely rare for a functional piece of furniture like this which would have been heavily used througout its life. It also retains its original bracket feet which once again is pretty unusual.
Tallboys, or Chests On Chests as they are often known are such useful, functional and practical pieces of furniture. This item itself is as fit for purpose as the day which it was made alongside the added benefit of its attractiveness. It is also worth bearing in mind that it is slightly smaller than the norm, making it perhaps more practical for many.
It has nicely figured and banded ends, constructed from well figured walnut, which of course means it looks just as beautiful even from a side on viewing angle.
As with all objects which we offer for sale this tallboy has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure that it is in its optimum condition before being offered for sale and is ready for immediate home placement.

In general kneehole deeks are regarded as a smaller, more compact version of the more typically found pedestal desk, with some form of an arrangement of drawers around a central set recessed cupboard being the typically found form. There are of course various different designs to be found along the same theme, but as a general rule that is the form you will usually find in a georgian kneehole desk...
