About the Item

Baroque chest of drawers with trompe-l'œil cube marquetry Mainfranken Nussbaum and others Mid 18th century Dimensions: H x W x D: 82 x 92 x 61 cm Description: Extraordinarily small baroque chest of drawers from the middle of the 18th century. The carved base made of solid walnut is typical of the area around Aschaffenburg - Würzburg - Bamberg. On top of this we see a hollow moulding made from end grain pieces placed end to end. The drawer fronts are veneered diagonally and each is triple-fielded. The cube marquetry of maple and walnut is also typical of the region. The discreet hardware blends harmoniously into the overall appearance of the furniture front. The marquetry has a three-dimensional effect due to the different colours and the skilfully laid grain patterns. This technique is also known in French as "trompe-l'œil". The sides and top of the piece of furniture are also designed accordingly. Condition: Refurbished and suitable for everyday use with an original key that fits all three locks.
