18th Century Bleached Oak Dutch Baroque Commode

About the Item

This a very heavily built commode hand-made in the Netherlands in the late 1700s using oak and dovetail construction. The commode features three drawers with serpentine fronts and beautifully made dovetail joints. The top in composed of two boards with carved edges on three sides, rounded corners, and a serpentine front. The bottom of the case is decorated by simple molding on three sides, and the front molding follows the same wavy serpentine patterns as the top and the drawer fronts. Other than the depth provided by the uneven front, the commode is very simple in lines. The piece still sits on its original bun feet, however the hardware is not original, but still antique hardware that marries the style of the commode well, and adds some additional decorative elements to it. The piece has received some restorations, however the bleaching of the wood makes them hard to spot and see. This is a rather large commode that can provide plenty of storage space, additionally, because of its light color and old age it will add style and elegance to any room.
