Late 19th Walnut Nine Drawer Tall French Carved Chest or Siffonier

About the Item

Extremely sturdy, almost completely original. Constructed using mortis and Tenon joints, horse glue and forged iron nails. Uprights are heavily carved with hanging garland and scroll motifs. Drawer fronts are adorned with flattened foliage carved in relief with later incised carved wheels on either end of each drawer. Drawer interiors are original and open easily without a hint of difficulty. Drawer sides partially overlap fronts and are secured with iron nails and exhibit remnants of horse glue. Iron key opens working locks. Both sides of the drawers have a carved columns and the right columns opens and close to open and close with lock the drawers. Paw feet are original. Wood patches are evident in a couple of spots. Some light worm damage (chest has been fumigated). Finish returned to its current polished state by an expert hand. Chest came from a large villa full of fine French antiques.
