A Pair of High Chests by Paul Frankl for Johnson Furniture

About the Item

This pair of high chests designed by Paul Frankl for Johnson Furniture were produced in the 1950s. Standing the test of time, the craftsmanship of these is unmistakable. The chests have been restored sporting a dark stain, allowing for subtle hints of the grain to be seen. Each chest has 7 drawers of 3 different sizes, perfect for different articles of clothing. The striking "x" pulls are brass. The chests are signed with the Johnson Furniture Co. mark branded in the side of one of the drawers. See image #9. Functional, beautiful and well made, these chests will continue stand the test of time. This is a wonderful opportunity to own pieces of design history. Below from 1st Dibs: "Born in Vienna, Paul Frankl came to the United States in 1914 as part of a wave of Central European design luminaries — among them Kem Weber, Rudolph Schindler, and Richard Neutra — who were drawn by the energy and optimism of the American scene. Prolific and protean, Frankl would go on to design furnishings that are emblematic of nearly every key stylistic chord in American modernism, from the streamlined Art Deco to free-form organic shapes."
