About the Item

These signed Maison Jansen Marble top Commodes / Dressers are exceptional pieces of furniture. The matching pieces each with a shaped white beveled marble top resting on a case with two bronze framed drawers flanked by bronze framed sides with fluted corners, supported by circular tapering and fluted legs with with both bronze mounts and ending in bronze caps. Stamped "JANSEN/INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA" and "29608". For the nearly identical model, see page 251 of "Jansen Furniture", James Archer Abbott. Maison Jansen was one of the world’s first international decorating firms based out of Paris and founded in 1880 by Jean-Henri Jansen. They specialized in mostly Louis XVI style furniture and then progressing and adapting to changes throughout the years until they transitioned into Deco and Mid Century modern in their final years. The firm closed its doors in 1989.
