About the Item

Paolo Buffa commodes with wooden structure and details in grissinato wood. Made in Italy, approx. 1960. Exceptional quality commodes made of wood by one of the most famous italian designers of XX century.Paolo Buffa (born in 1903 in Milan and died in 1970 in Milan), a leading figure in the world of Italian design and architecture, characterized the scene with his unmistakable style for almost fifty years. Buffa's artistic repertoire stands out for its skilful fusion of neoclassical and Art Deco formal elements. Crafted with finesse and elegance, Buffa's high-quality pieces were made with refined materials, with the express purpose of furnishing the homes of a demanding and wealthy clientele. These furnishing creations have been tailor-made to meet the needs of people inclined towards contemporary aesthetics, functionalism and comfort. Buffa's creative repertoire extended beyond furniture design to architecture and he undertook a series of commissions that included public buildings, villas and country houses. Paolo Buffa's formative years were spent in an artistic environment, having been born to Giovanni Buffa, a renowned designer of exceptional talent. Giovanni Buffa shared ownership of a highly professional workshop dedicated to the creation of exquisite works of art in Stained Glass. Among his most important works are the stained glass windows of the illustrious Milan Cathedral, a historic cathedral located in Milan. Such a creative family fostered an environment of artistic excellence, which undoubtedly played a crucial role in the formation of Paolo Buffa's artistic sensibility. Buffa's artistic training began at the prestigious Brera Academy of Fine Arts, and she eventually earned a degree from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1927. After gaining experience in his father's studio, Buffa worked as an apprentice at the Ponti e Lancia studio, jointly owned by the famous architects Gio Ponti (1891-1979) and Emilio Lancia (1890-1973). This experience proved to be a significant turning point in Buffa's career, as he drew inspiration from Lombard Neoclassicism and was exposed to the ideas and concepts of some of the region's most prominent architects. An He assimilated these teachings and employed them in his work, characterized by a fusion of traditional Lombard woodworking techniques and modern design aesthetics.
