About John Stuart:
John Stuart joined the John Widdicomb Company as Director and Sales Manager in 1929. He later became General Manager and Vice President and in 1943 he was named President of John Widdicomb. Shortly after John Stuart, Inc. was formed. It appears it had been a separate company that ran the designer showroom in New York and later in Philadelphia, Chicago and Denmark. John Stuart was responsible for bringing some of the era’s finest Danish Modern furniture to the American market. Finn Juhl, Ole Wanscher, Peter Hvidt, Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, and Edvard Kindt-Larsen are just a few of the legendary Danish designers who worked with John Stuart. Count Sigvard Bernadotte, son of the Swedish King Gustav Adolf, also designed for John Stuart.

Renzo Rutili for John Stuart 3-Piece Checker Parquet Campaign Style Credenza
By John Stuart Inc., Johnson Furniture Company, Renzo Rutili
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Stately. No other word best represents this exceptional Renzo Rutili credenza / dresser. The fusion of British Colonial, Far East, Regency and Modern create a distinctive harmony, rarely found in such tasteful proportions. Versatility abound. Imagine how elegant this would look in a hall entry.
Both chests can be arranged in opposite positions (facing either direction) atop the solid walnut bench. Finished on both sides, these cabinets proudly showcase a stacked bay of brass accented regal drawers. Contrasting yet complimentary in their checkered parquet assemblage of various exotic wood veneers. The pulls lock in patinated brass plates that have acquired a hammered appearance over the decades. No better place to store your treasures of the Orient.
Every inch was delicately restored by our in-house cabinet shop. We use a light touch to remove imperfections, without taking away any charm or patina. We restore with the intentions of maintaining authenticity and character. Our pieces look well-preserved, not "refinished". Minor imperfections may remain noticeable up-close, but the overall presentation will be estimable. We encourage you to examine our photos closely and please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Manufactured by Johnson Furniture for John Stuart Inc. of New York and designed by Renzo Rutili.

Large Raymond Loewy Inspired Yellow Chapter One Gentlemans Chest Armoire
By Raymond Loewy, Ettore Sottsass, Broyhill
Located in Chattanooga, TN
This model is nearly impossible to find. Moreover, yellow is the most sought after option. Combined with the fact that we've restored this piece to outstanding condition, we're certain you WILL NOT find a more sublime rendition.
Well it’s 2024, and Broyhill’s Chapter One Collection is officially harder to find and more sought after than the Raymond Loewy orginals. With all due respect to Raymond Loewy, there really is something magical about the Chapter One line. Maybe they’re just more fun and approachable. Maybe it’s the proportions and practicality. Regardless, they’re one of our favourite collections of all time. The restoration team pulled no punches on this Chapter One Yellow Highboy Dresser, and the end result exceeded our expectations. Every inch of painted wood (including base) was professionally sanded primed and painted to match the original bright white. The laminate top and canary yellow molded plastic door / drawer fronts were finally buffed and polished to a glassy shine. Unlike the traditional Chapter One Highboy, this "Gentleman's Chest" version is step up in style and function. The open cabinet space on the left features a removable and adjustable height shelf, painted in gloss white of course. The right side has two hinged doors that open to reveal an additional (3) drawers. These also sport the signature white facades, and open / close with ease on the ball-bearing metal tracks. This dresser was built like a tank, but looks like a Lamborghini. It’s tough to see this one go, but we know it will be loved.
Broyhill’s Chapter one collection borrowed from the plastic mold injection designs made famous by legendary designer Raymond Loewy. Like Loewy, these Chapter One Dressers employ the futuristic use of color and materials in a way that had not been seen before. The bright yellow plastic captures the playful spirit of the 1970s. The Gentleman's Chest Cabinet is supported by a lacquered plinth base with rounded corners. This colorful, curvaceous case-good could have blended in nicely on the set of 2001 A Space Odyssey. The space-age look has never been more desirable, which may help explain the recent scarcity of all things Chapter One.

1960's Danish Teak Highboy Chest Dresser With Carved Oval Recessed Pulls
By Kai Kristiansen, Poul Volther, Børge Mogensen
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Just look at the matched pattern grain drawer fronts on this early Danish highboy. The fiery cathedrals cover all 7-drawers and showcase the use of the natural elements to compliment the Scandinavian design. This chest is an exemplary specimen of Danish cabinet making. Tightly dovetailed drawers, beautiful teak wood and easy gliding drawers are hallmarks of the superior craftsmanship. There is no particle board anywhere. Instead we see solid pine wood, covered in thick teak...
