Rare early 19th century American Late Empire inlaid mahogany Bowfront Chest

About the Item

A rare and important Antique American mid-Atlantic region Late Empire Inlaid mahogany large Bowfront Chest of Drawers with checkered inlays, rosewood crossbanding (inlay), half-turned and reeded columns with brass capitals top and bottom; all upon original bunn feet. This chest is in superb, age-appropriate condition with the odd piece of veneer missing (see image) as well as some shrinkage to some of the veneer along the front of the chest. There is also a small shrinkage crack along the top of the chest (also see image). Otherwise it is sound, age-appropriate condition. A wonderful, early American, Late Empire style chest of drawers with atypical, marvelous inlays throughout. The oval brass handles are antique and correct for the period, but there is evidence of another set of handles having been on this chest at one time and is only mentioned for accuracy.
