Rare Georgian Serpentine-Front Mahogany Chest of Drawers, c. 1800

About the Item

Discover a rare gem of Georgian craftsmanship with this stunning serpentine-front mahogany chest of drawers, dating to circa 1800. Predating the more common George IV pieces, this chest offers a glimpse into late 18th-century artistry, making it a standout addition for collectors, interior designers, or discerning homeowners seeking a piece of history. Details: - Timeless Design: The dresser’s elegant serpentine front, slender tapered legs, and balanced proportions epitomize Georgian sophistication. Its subtle curves and refined silhouette make it a versatile statement piece for any interior, from traditional to eclectic. - Superior Craftsmanship: Crafted from solid mahogany, the wood’s warm, rich grain has developed a breathtaking patina over two centuries. Hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers and a sturdy frame showcase the cabinetmaker’s skill, ensuring this piece remains as functional as it is beautiful. - Rare Originality: Unlike many period pieces that have been heavily restored, this dresser retains its original turned wooden knobs and finish - some with honest repairs, all locks available - lacking key, adding charming antique detail. Minor scratches and wear enhance its authenticity, telling the story of its 200-year journey. - Ample Storage: Featuring six drawers—two short over four long - this chest offers generous storage without sacrificing elegance. Perfect for a bedroom, living space, or as a striking entryway piece. - Condition: Lovingly preserved in its original state, with light wear, scuffs, minor historic splits and losses - see images, all consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and ready to be cherished for generations. - Provenance: Sourced from a private collection, this dresser bears the hallmarks of a skilled Georgian cabinetmaker, likely intended for a prominent household of the era. Why This Piece? This Georgian chest of drawers is a rare find, especially in such original condition. Its c. 1800 provenance and untouched finish set it apart from later, restored George IV pieces, offering authenticity that’s increasingly hard to find. Perfect for collectors seeking a museum-quality addition or designers curating a luxurious interior, its warm mahogany tones and elegant curves blend seamlessly into any space. As shown in the photos, this dresser pairs beautifully with eclectic decor, making it a versatile addition to any space Dimensions: Height 122cm Width 108cm Depth 59cm Pieces of this caliber in original condition rarely come to market.
