About the Item

A scarce authentic antique circa 1890 Syrian corner cabinet / open display stand, elaborately decorated throughout, the amount of painstaking time and skill that was required is truly impressive! Handcrafted in the Ottoman Empire / present day Syria in the late 19th century, almost certainly Damascus work. Showcasing traditional Middle Eastern and Moorish architectural styling, with nods to period Victorian Orientalist, the triangular shaped hardwood case with canted corners features extensive hand carved, pierced, molded, and fretwork ornamentation, profusely decorated in flowing scrolling foliate arabesques and geometric reliefs, enhanced by brilliant intricately arranged contrasting bone and mother of pearl inlays, accented with a row of culturally significant crisscrossed bobbin turned latticework window panels known as Mashrabiya (Moucharabieh), which are fine quality works after an ancient Islamic architecture characteristic. This unique form of ornamentation is typically reserved for only Moroccan, North African, and Middle East made furniture. Having a large open display compartment accessed through an ornately decorated arched central doorway, flanked by tall open Mihrab niche cutouts, allowing additional natural light inside. Two-tier stand / open cupboard form design, with triangular top perfect for a flowering plant, sculpture or decor, over single spacious partially enclosed raised lower shelf, ideal for displaying a large vase, statue, or treasured heirloom. PROVENANCE / ACQUISITION: Property from a prominent private Texas estate Acquired from the above from the reputable auction house, Dallas Auction Gallery, Dallas Design District, Texas. Currently shown closed in the last photo. It is not included / available separately. The previous owner used them together, but the wall cabinet is flat and this cabinet triangular intended for corners, so you would need some sort of plan, hanging solution or custom mount in order to use them together. In the photo it is just set on top and not secure* DIMENSIONS: (approx) 36.5" High, 32" Wide (across outside corner to corner), 21" Deep (back corner to center edge), 22.5" Long (back corner to front corner) CONDITION REPORT: Overall good antique condition, especially considering its age, with nicely aged warm rich dark distressed patina Strong, sturdy, stable, structurally sound.
