Rare 17th Century Spanish Vargueño

Crafted from solid one-inch thick walnut panels, this vargueño stands as a testament to the masterful craftsmanship of its time. The writing desk showcases intricate inlaid marquetry circles adorning its front, while inside, nineteen drawers await, each boasting a diamond parquetry design—a testament to both function and beauty. With a large drawer with the same diamond parquetry as the interior drawers resting atop two doors, all adorned with wrought iron hardware, and handles on the sides fashioned from the same wrought iron, every aspect of this piece speaks to its grandeur. The original lock and key are functioning, a true rarity for pieces of this age. Vargueños were highly prized possessions in 17th century Spain, serving as portable writing desks for the elite.
