The central drawer, flanked by single drawers on each side, enhances the piece's refined functionality. Raised on graceful cabriole legs adorned with ormolu accents and paw-claws, the desk is crowned by a serpentine-edged leather top with embossed gilt trim. Béfort Jeune's exceptional attention to detail makes this bureau plat a true masterpiece of French furniture craftsmanship. Marks related to the maker can be found underneath the bronze pieces that decorate the corners of the desk. The Béfort family workshop, located in Paris, was renowned for producing high-quality pieces that caught the eye of discerning patrons, including Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie.
