Edwardian walnut bon heur du jour

About the Item

Edwardian walnut bon heur du jour This Edwardian walnut bon heur du jour (in French, bonheur-du-jour, meaning "daytime delight") was made circa 1910. The top with the stationery boxes to each end joined with a shelf, with a lifting lid and drawer. The lids with inlaid oval panels of burr walnut edged, with boxwood stringing. It has an inset red leather gilt tooled writing surface. The desk stands on a tapered and strung inlaid leg to each corner standing on castors. The 2 drawers with the quartered walnut to make the interesting design, are fitted with the original brass pull handles, and are lined with fine mahogany. At the rear the desk is finished to match the front also with the walnut quartered and laid to give the same effect. Imagine the elegant Edwardian lady who would have sat behind this desk writing letters to her loved ones, perhaps a boyfriend fighting in the trenches or at sea as he mastered a ship in those terrible times. To own this desk will be a pleasure and imagine how good it will look as a centrepiece in a room. 92cms wide 36ins 53cms deep 21ins 94cms high top of gallery 37ins Measurements are as accurate as possible.
