About the Item

The essence of Danish Modern elegance defines this sculptural teak desk, conceived in the early 1960s by architect‑designer Svend Åge Madsen for Sigurd Hansen Møbelfabrik. Titled the SH‑180 model, it harmoniously merges organic silhouette and refined utility. The gently bowed desktop floats above drawer modules, supported by gracefully arched “A‑frame” legs that give the piece an aerospace-like lightness, wrapped in the honeyed glow of solid teak. Fully restored with professional care, the entire structure underwent deconstruction and hand-finishing. Many surfaces were sanded, cornered edges smoothed, and refinished with multiple coats of oil to deepen the wood’s warmth and reveal the grain. The internal drawer mechanisms were serviced for smooth operation. The result: a desk that balances brand-new visual serenity with authentic vintage presence and structural integrity. Beneath the desk top lies an expansive built-in bookcase cabinet: an ideal niche for manuscripts, volumes, or display objects—offering storage without disrupting the design’s clarity. Six drawer fronts feature delicate recessed handles, the concave lip surface preventing loose papers from slipping off. The rear bookcase area completes the aesthetic. Floating architectural cabinetry maintains an ultra-clean silhouette. Dimensions: 59″W × 29″D × 29.75″H (150 cm × 73.7 cm × 75.6 cm) This desk is a consummate example of Scandinavian craftsmanship that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. Its proportions offer authoritative presence without overt heaviness—a mid-sized footprint with a stately personality. The design reflects Madsen’s quiet modernism, infusing minimalist restraint with organic form and tactile richness. Ideal for collectors assembling investment-grade Danish masterpieces, or for sophisticated interiors craving a statement desk that marries sculptural integrity with practicality. It serves equally as an executive writing table, a refined home office focal point, or a gallery-style display piece. In restored condition and with elegant lineage, this desk represents design history elevated to functional art. Just look at the matched pattern grain drawer fronts on this early Danish highboy. The fiery cathedrals cover all 7-drawers and showcase the use of the natural elements to compliment the Scandinavian design. This chest is an exemplary specimen of Danish cabinet making. Tightly dovetailed drawers, beautiful teak wood and easy gliding drawers are hallmarks of the superior craftsmanship. There is no particle board anywhere. Instead we see solid pine wood, covered in thick teak...
