1930s Donald Deskey Art Deco Low Maple Dresser with Round Mirror for Widdicomb

About the Item

Wonderful period streamline Art Deco design low dresser with round mirror by Donald Deskey (1894-1989) for Widdicomb furniture in maple veneer with aluminum details. Cream lacquered handles and highlights. Older restoration, saw very little use since restored, used in guest bedroom. Drawers are graduated, top 5.5" d, 2nd 6."d , 3rd 6.5" d and bottom 7"d. Mahogany drawers with dovetails. Part of a complete bedroom suite, that I have separated and listed for sale.. Also available tall dresser, dressing table with mirror & vanity stool, pair of twin beds and single nightstand. Inspired by the European Art Deco style, Minnesota-born Donald Deskey helped establish a look that became known as "Streamlined Modern." He first gained note as a designer when he created window displays for the Franklin Simon Department Store in Manhattan in 1926. In the 1930s, he won the competition to design the interiors for Radio City Music Hall. In the 1940s he started the graphic design firm Donald Deskey Associates and made some of the most recognizable icons of the day.

    Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Nice older restoration / refinishing, has seen little use since. Some minor scuffs to top handle and wear to top, light scuffs.
