About the Item

Elegant commode with three drawers (including a smaller top drawer), made in France in the second half of the 18th century, signed under the marble top by P. Pioniez, a master cabinetmaker active in Paris who was received master in 1765 and died in 1790. Pioniez is known for the high quality of his creations, which often feature highly precise floral and allegorical inlays and finely chiseled bronze mounts in keeping with the best tradition of Parisian Ancien Régime cabinetmaking. Technical and decorative features Dimensions: Width 113 cm - Depth 49 cm - Height 87 cm. Inlays: The front has fine inlay decoration with floral motifs and a central medallion depicting an allegory of music: an open score, musical instruments, and flowers, executed with fine woods such as bois de rose, rosewood, maple, and (probably) ebony. Gilt bronze mounts: Particularly elegant are the corner mounts, carved with masks and plant motifs in the neoclassical style. Marble top: French Breccia of warm color, well preserved. Structure: Drawers, back and interior made entirely of oak, an indication of solidity and quality construction. Conservation status Some reinforcement to the drawer aisles and internal structure, executed consistently with respect to the cabinet. Locks: The top drawer retains the original lock, but the current key is not working. The bottom drawer has a lock that was replaced at a later time and is functional today. Well-preserved patina, stable and ready-to-use cabinet. Author: Pierre Pioniez. Pioniez was active in Paris in the second half of the 18th century, acquiring the title of maître in 1765. His works are rare and sought-after, appreciated for the balance between decorative taste and constructive rigor, in line with the transition between Louis XV and Louis XVI tastes. Died April 6, 1790. ?Furniture of historic value, signed, ideal for both collectors and sought-after interior furnishings. Shipping available worldwide.
