Late 17th-century-early 18th-century Lombard chest of drawers canterano

About the Item

Front divided into four molded drawers the first of which has the possibility of being lowered forward concealing in the interior a tripartite chest of drawers , consisting of six small molded drawers and all equipped with the original lock. Walnut top, ending in elegant owl beak and divided lengthwise into two halves, hinged together that give it the ability to to be opened and give access to the drawer unit mentioned earlier and the shelf formed by the felling of the front of the first drawer in a horizontal position. Sides framed by wavy framing Crushed onion front feet (typical of the late 17th-early 18th century period) The cabinet is in perfect condition and has a beautiful original patina. This type of canter, undoubtedly the most valuable of the period, were often used as writing desks. The space that was in fact formed when the canter was "open " became a perfect plane on which to lean for reading or writing. The size of the drawers inside the chest of drawers was often calculated on the size of the papers they were to hold. Lombardy, late 17th century-early 18th century.
