Kitchen interior, oil painting on canvas, northern Italy, 17th century

About the Item

Kitchen interior, oil painting on canvas, northern Italy, 17th century Two characters, still life with rich game and vegetables, tableware, a dog and a cat. Northern Italy, 17th century dimensions: 155 x 185 cm 174 x 205 cm (with frame) In the center of a large kitchen, on a neutral table, are resting various birds, the result of a rich hunting trip; including pheasants, ducks, woodcocks , some partridges and a beautiful hare. On the right side are two figures: a man in a black tunic, gray hair, and headdress holds a hare in his left hand, and with his right hand he pulls a knife from his belt; at his side a young man with a sling in his hand looks at us and points to the man at his side, probably to let us know that he is the hunter of the game. At lower left is a dog, and above it, behind a basket containing vegetables, peeps a suspicious cat. On the back wall various copper cookware, three large pewter plates, and a terracotta container with lid. Of note is the window in the upper right corner, from which a glimpse of the bright day outside can be seen. And especially the small table in the foreground, on which are resting spring onions and a wooden container full of vegetables, some of whose leaves have spilled out, and two of these were caught by the artist as they fell to the ground...in an almost "photographic" representation of the moment. The painting is part of the production of "genre scenes" that developed in the area between Lombardy and Emilia Romagna between the 17th and 18th century where a circle of painters, including Giacomo Ceruti, Felice Boselli, Giacomo Francesco Cipper known as "il Todeschini, Giovanni and Angelo Maria Crivelli, Bartolomeo Arbotori, Monsù Aurora, and Gian Domenico Valentino. made paintings where the depiction of the everyday was often the main subject. The painting is in excellent condition. The work is accompanied by the certificate of free movement and can therefore be immediately exported.
